Effective leaders focus on the greater good--that is, what is best for the organization, team, city, state, or country they are leading--not what serves their own interests, including their egos. Refer explicitly and frequently to your company's mission or your group's purpose when communicating with colleagues. This practice not only makes your commitment obvious, but also directs the attention of others to the ultimate good.
