October 2023: As the Indiana University host for Legendary Pathways, an Oceania cruise on the Mediterranean Sea, Mark gave a lecture called “The Literary Mediterranean” for fellow passengers on the ship. Beginning with the great epics by Homer and Virgil, the lecture also covered John Keats and other British poets, as well as Mark Twain, whose early travel book The Innocents Abroad was based on his experiences in the region. It was the second cruise for which Mark has served as IU Host. The next will be in 2025 and will be in a different part of the world. For information, email canadam@iuk.edu.
