My career as an English professor and department chair informs my current work as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, where I oversee some 230 fulltime faculty in 16 departments ranging from mathematics and history to nursing and social work, as well as UNCP’s new program in Southeast American Indian Studies, which I helped to establish. As dean, I am active in fundraising, outreach, budget management, and initiatives promoting student and faculty success, including the Go-to Faculty, annual faculty recognition luncheons, Dean’s Supplemental Travel Funds, and reduced teaching loads.

As the senior administrator in the university's largest academic division, I oversee some 230 fulltime faculty in 16 departments ranging from mathematics and history to nursing and social work, as well as UNCP’s new program in Southeast American Indian Studies, which I helped to establish. My responsibilities include faculty evaluation, fundraising, outreach, and budget management. During my time as acting dean (2011-2012) and dean (2012-present), I have launched the Go-to Faculty initiative for student succes, expanded outreach to include faculty radio interviews and collaborations with local nonprofits, and collaborated with other administrators to reduce teaching loads, initiate annual faculty recognition luncheons, and set up a new system of Dean’s Supplemental Travel Funds.
